ABOUT THE COURSE

HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies. The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a workplace or community setting.

HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to perform CPR in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a workplace or community setting.

Delivery: Blended delivery 

Course Duration: Before attending for face-to-face students will need to complete their e-Learning

Full Day 6-8 Hours Delivery: Face-to-face training and assessment

Participants: Minimum of 5 persons

Cost: $125pp 

First Aid Overview

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support and management of casualties until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

It includes learning about:

  • Assessing an emergency situation

  • Airway and breathing management, including choking and drowning

  • CPR techniques, defibrillation and AED safety and maintenance

  • First Aid management of the unconscious casualty

  • Medical conditions including cardiac, stroke, diabetes and seizures

  • Asthma, allergy and anaphylaxis

  • Contents of First Aid kits

  • Infection control and First Aid for minor wounds

  • Control of major external bleeding and shock

  • Hyperthermia and hypothermia

  • Venomous bites and stings

  • Poisons / Burns

  • Eye injuries / Soft tissue injuries

  • Dislocations and fracture management

  • Head, neck and spinal injuries

  • Incident reports

  • Debriefing and review of critical incidents

  2. HLTAID011 /02 Apply appropriate First Aid procedures

  3. HLTAID011 /03 Communicate details of the incident

  4. HLTAID011 /04 Review the incident

CPR Overview

This course provides the skills and knowledge to be able to handle cardiac emergency situations.

It includes learning about:

  • Introduction to first aid principles

  • Assessing a cardiac emergency situation

  • Airway and breathing management

  • Performing chest compressions

  • Administering rescue breaths

  • Infection control procedures

  • Resuscitation techniques

  • Using a defibrillator (AED)

  • AED maintenance

  2. HLTAID009/02 Perform CPR procedures

  3. HLTAID009/03 Communicate details of the incident

  4. HLTAID009 /04 Review the incident
